Company History
Maryland Heritage Custom Builders has taken many forms along the way in becoming a full-service custom home builder and residential remodeling firm.

Starting as a framing subcontractor building homes for regional and national home builders in the Baltimore-Washington metropolitan area, the small company quickly grew to a two-crew sized operation. In no time, Maryland Heritage found itself building some of the areas grandest and elaborately framed houses throughout Potomac, Bethesda and Northern Virginia. The company had grown large enough to staff four full-time framing crews, but was now getting requests from friends and relatives inquiring about additions and turn-key projects.

While still acting primarily in the role of framing sub-contractor, it was once again time to branch out into other venues. Carpentry has always been the "granddaddy" of all the building trades, and with it's extensive exposure to all phases of construction in the high-end custom home market, Maryland Heritage began successfully completing a variety of projects including master bath remodels and full-blown interior and kitchen renovations as well as entire custom home building projects.

The pride and joy found in managing a construction project from excavation to homeowner-occupancy has been the deciding factor that has brought Maryland Heritage to where it is today. With its rich technical and hands-on background, steeped in the timeless carpentry tradition, Maryland Heritage Custom Builders is more than well-equipped to successfully deliver any sized project on-time and on-budget.

Our Logo
Plumb Level Square We take great pride in creatively tackling issues that arise during the normal course of a construction project. This permeates everything we do, whether in the field or preparing proposals. And not surprisingly, it has carried over into the development of our unique company logo.

Wanting to incorporate the rich carpentry beginnings of Maryland Heritage Custom Builders as well as communicate the importance we place on attention to detail, we set out to develop a design that would separate our company from the average residential construction firm.

At first glance, you may notice a level, a hammer, a plumb bob and the numbers 3,4,5. How all those components come together is what makes our logo so special. Yes, the level is just a normal carpenter's level, but the hammer is what is known in the industry as a "California framing hammer". As professional carpenters we take our tools seriously, and the serious professional carpenter knows that a hammer can be his best friend or his worst enemy. The unique shape of the curved wood handle, usually hickory, makes for a smoother swinging tool, which helps reduce fatigue and better absorbs shock. The plumb bob is a tool that is not as widely used as it once was and requires more patience than a level, but never needs adjusting. An exacting carpenter always carries at least one is his toolbox. These three tools are then brought together in the form of a right triangle.

From high school geometry you'll recall that the Pythagorean Theorem stated that the square of the hypotenuse of a right triangle equals the sum of the square of its sides. In the field, carpenters and masons use this formula constantly in order to ensure that their layouts are square. They do it by using any form of 3 foot, 4 foot and 5 foot. If on one wall (or leg of the triangle) they mark 3 foot, and the other intersecting wall they mark 4 foot, than the distance diagonally between the two marks should be 5 foot, if those two walls are at a right angle from each other.

So now you know the story behind our unique logo. In short: "Plumb, Level and Square"!
